SH10 Waipapa Corridor Improvements, $24.5m

Key Achievements

  • This project was funded by NZTA, the Provincial Growth Fund and FNDC and required extensive coordination between all three agencies and intensive reporting.
  • Relationships with the local business owners were integral to the success of this project and as NZTA’s Project Manager, Kevin ensured he was directly involved in consultation.
  • This was an ECI project that encouraged advice and involvement from the contractor into the buildability and optimisation of designs. Through this model, the integrated team worked to gain an early understanding of the project requirements, manage risk and deliver innovations to improve value.

The Details

Waipapa is located on SH10 to the west of Kerikeri. A single-lane roundabout will make it safer for traffic to turn at the intersection of SH10 and Waipapa Road, reduce peak-time congestion and help slow traffic through Waipapa town centre. Services have been moved underground and fibre optic cable has been laid to enable residents and businesses to connect to ultra-fast broadband. Waipapa’s entire stormwater system has been replaced and improved as the previous system had reached the end of its asset life.

The project will support the growth of Waipapa, helping create jobs for local communities. It will also provide safer, more appealing cycling and pedestrian access for people wanting to walk or cycle through or around the township. Improving the experience of people travelling the Twin Coast Discovery Route supports Northland’s tourism industry and promotes broader economic development.
